Location: Tempe, AZ (W Roosevelt Way); Vehicle-based role with travel across Greater Phoenix and other labs sites (PHX0, PHX1, PHX3, Chandler)
Compensation: $25,41/hour
Requirements: MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) check and NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) required
Work Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week (including evenings/weekends as project demands)

Position Overview

A small, specialized operations team is being rebuilt to support autonomous vehicle mapping initiatives throughout the Greater Phoenix area. Team members operate dedicated mapping vehicles, executing mapping tickets, collaborating with engineers, and ensuring road safety and data quality. When vehicles are out of service, reporting is expected at designated lab locations as necessary. This role offers the opportunity to work hands-on with emerging technology, contribute to high-stakes operations, and directly impact the organization's data and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and test vehicles across varied environments, road types, and weather conditions, adhering to all traffic laws and road safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with partners and engineers to execute test plans and prepare vehicles/components as instructed.
  • Maintain laser focus on mapping objectives while communicating effectively for accurate, safe, and efficient execution.
  • Perform a range of driving tasks: route mapping, short engineering test drives, and transport/delivery runs.
  • Generate detailed and accurate test reports; upload data disks when needed.
  • Apply engineering principles and established practices to support test activities and performance targets.
  • Travel to test sites, customer locations, and environments that may include extreme terrain or challenging driving conditions.
  • Coordinate logistics of testing—location readiness, resource planning, tool availability.
  • Conduct quality assurance evaluations assessing functionality, drivability, and user experience.
  • Drive safely day/night and in adverse conditions; complete all task assignments within scheduled time.
  • Work independently or with in-vehicle partner operators; adhere to all security and operational protocols.
  • Support broader operations, including equipment/material movement and facility logistical tasks.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience in the technology sector or a strong interest/aptitude for technical operations.
  • Proficiency using ticketing and workflow tools (e.g., JIRA) for progress tracking, scheduling, and feedback collection.
  • Strong organizational/process orientation; reliable adherence to structured schedules and willingness to work evenings/weekends.
  • Technologically savvy and comfortable troubleshooting basic technical issues.
  • Genuinely interested in autonomous vehicles and advanced technology.
  • Must complete an MVR background check and sign an NDA prior to start.
